As you all know we are living in the age of smart phones. Smart phones can do practically anything! They help keep us connected to others, help us stay organized, help us share photos safely, the list goes on. I remember when I got my first cell phone back in 2000. I thought is was the coolest thing ever! I never imagined cell phones being what they are now! Apps have made cell phones more useful and are practically like little computers. I wanted to share 8 of my fave apps that I use every day.
1. Lifecake:
I discovered this app when I first found out that I was pregnant. I wanted to find a way to share pictures with family members without clogging up their text message inboxes. This was the PERFECT app! It allows you to share pictures and videos with family members or friends directly through the app. You just have to create an account, add your family members and start posting to your heart’s content! The cool thing is that you can give family members permission to add pictures as well. Family members can “favorite” pictures and even add comments. We have tons of pictures and videos on this app. You can even add other accounts to the app. For instance, my brother and sister-in-law are expecting, so they created an account, added me and I can view their pics on the app at the same time I can view mine. It’s a really cool app and I love it! When I have baby # 2 I’ll even be able to add their pics to the app under their name. This is great app for parents and parents to be.
2. Wunderlist:
Henry introduced me to this app. It’s a great app for those who like to create “to do” lists. I am definitely a big “to do lister”. 🙂 This app is great because as you complete items on your list you can “check” them off! I love being able to do that! LOL Another really nice thing about this app is that you can create shared lists. This is great because Henry and I are able to work on specific projects together and keep track of the progress we are making. It’s a great app that helps to keep us organized and productive.
3. Whatsapp:
I can’t remember how I learned about this app but it’s one that I use EVERY day! It’s a great way to stay connected to friends without clogging up text message inboxes. It’s a great chat app where you can send messages to your contacts. You can even make special groups so that you can communicate to several friends at once. This app allows you to make phone calls to your contacts and even leave voice messages if they miss your call. A new feature they just added is the capability to video chat with your contacts. These calling features use the internet so you are not being charged for long distance phone calls. It’s a great app!
4. Pinterest:
I love this app! I prefer this app on my phone over the actual website. It’s a great way to get ideas and save them all in one place. This app was very helpful to me when I completed my 6-month “no shopping” challenge (more on that in another post). I was able to get fashion ideas that helped me learn how to use and put together things that I already had in my closet. I used this app to plan Rissy’s 1st birthday party, to find ideas for my haircut when I made the big chop, ideas on how to repurpose things, etc. You can find information on this app about practically ANYTHING. It’s a great one and I use it almost every day!
5. Timehop:
Timehop is a fun app. I like it because it will show you memories from your social media accounts and phone pictures every day. It’s a great one, because it brings back special memories over the years. Most of the time I smile when I see the pic or status I posted and sometimes I cringe when I see them!! It’s a great way to see how much I’ve grown over the years. I posted a pic from that app the other day because it was a reminder of how starting my gr8ful box really helped my attitude and outlook on things to change. I really like being able to have those memories preserved. I also like the app because I’m one of those parents that has over 3,000 pictures of Rissy on my phone. So this app will show me pictures each day that I have saved in my phone over the years. I love it because it will pull up a picture of Rissy and take me down memory lane all over again.
6. Dunkin Donuts:
This is a recent app that I installed on my phone. I work at two different schools and they BOTH have DD stores literally minutes away. Because I am a coffee drinker, this store is right up my alley! I also LOVE their 99 cent large peach sweet teas. I always look forward to getting one when I can. The great thing about the app is that you can buy your food and drinks with it. You can add money to your DD card through the account directly. Another cool thing about this app is that you can order your drinks and food online through the app and then just pick it up at your nearest DD. The thing I love the most about this app is that you get rewards points. When you get 200 points, you get a free beverage, any size of your choice. I’ve gotten a few free ones! And you also get a free beverage for your birthday! They give you different offers through the app that you can use at any DD store. It’s a great one… especially for those who love coffee… and of course you can’t forget the donuts!
7. thredUp:
This is an app that is fairly new to me, but I used it quite a bit this past summer. It’s an awesome online consignment store that you can purchase used clothes for pretty good prices. I use this mainly to shop for Rissy because the prices on baby clothes are really good! I’ve gotten Rissy some really great things for cheap! She grows so fast that I don’t want to pay full price for something that she’s not going to wear very long anyway. I’ve also been able to find some nice pieces of clothing on there for myself. So I guess I could say that I was #winning when I found that app!!
8. aCal:
This is a great organizational calendar app. I love it because you can customize the display colors and when you create events, you can even color code them. I also love how you can link other calendars to this one so that all of your calendars show up in one place. I prefer this app over the iPhone calendar because visually it’s easier for me to read. I am a visual person, and I like the way the information shows up in this app. I like this app because you can create important reminders and alarms within the app. I use this app every day and it’s the best calendar app I have found to date.
There are many other apps that I have on my phone and use, but these are the ones I use every day. They are a great combo of fun, shopping, organizational support, and social media…. As a woman.. What can be better than that??
So dear friends, what are some apps that you find useful or fun to use? I’m always looking for new apps to help make my life a little more organized so I would love to hear some of your ideas. Please share in the comments below.
Gr8fully Yours,
